Types of Paintballing
Paintballing falls into three main types. There is solo, rec-ball, and tournament paintballing.
Trying each type will help you make an informed decision, finding what matches with you and your
personality the best. You will probably find you have a primary preference and a secondary
preference when discovering your paintballing type of interest.
Solo Paintballing
- Motivation-to develop personal expertise in paintballing skills.
- Practice-prefers to practice alone, he will create variations of basic target paintballing practice to challenge himself.
- Competition-competes against himself, focusing on beating his own previous paintballing practice or play stats.
- Games-will play paintballing games, but prefers the games that are won by “the last person standing”, he’ll avoid the games that require a lot of teamwork and complicated group strategies.
- Teammate-this paintballer’s strength is usually his skill. In team play he does well protecting a key player or seeking out an opponent’s key player.
Rec-Ball Paintballing
- Motivation-be out on the field shooting.
- Practices-develops skills to be good enough to hold his own on the field.
- Competition-enjoys competing, likes to win, but can walk off the field in a good mood regardless of winning or loosing.
- Games-likes any and all paintball games, appreciates a good challenge, but is out to have fun.
- Teammate-because the rec-ball paintballer is out to have fun, he will be a good sport winning or loosing.
Tournament Paintballing
- Motivation-putting skilled shooting, strategy, and team work together to meet the challenge of winning a competition.
- Practice-develops superior individual paintballing shooting skills, he will practice with teams, and go over strategies.
- Competition-takes the competition seriously and doesn’t tolerate others who don’t put their heart in it.
- Games-the paintballing games that require shooting skills, extensive teamwork, and complicated strategies are just what this paintballer thrives on.
- Teammate-the tournament player is a team member you can depend on, but sometimes lacks good sportsmanship because he is so serious about the game.
Paintballers are often a combination of the above types. The tournament player will spend time solo
developing skills. The rec-ball paintballer will play in tournaments. The solo paintballer will be
out on the field with the rec-baller. Find your balance and be flexible and adjust to the type of
paintball you are participating in. If you are a tournament player and you join your rec-ball
buddies, it will be a better day on the field for everyone if you relax and just play for the
joy of it. For every paintballer there is a type of paintballing or a combination of paintballing
types that will match your personality.
